DEMETER – GINGERALE
Demeter are in the business of manufacturing 'singular scents', recording 'everyday smells' with astonishing precision. The Demeter scent library has literally hundreds of scents to its credit... everything from Fresh Baked Bread, Cut Grass, Dirt, Thunder Storms and Pina Coladas can be found there, all the way through to Turpentine, Beetroot and Creme Brulee. One of the most interesting, to my nose at least... is the sparkling effervescence of Gingerale.
Gingerale is a staggering olfactory impression of this famous carbonated drink. It tingles in the nose with a familiar gingery dryness. Packed with rich clove and zesty lime, this is an appealing feel-good fragrance that has done well in turning heads (in a good way of course). It sits well on skin, but does tend to taper off quite swiftly and disappear within a couple of hours. Still, at about $20 for a 4 oz bottle, it really does provide exceptionally good bang for your buck!
Gingerale is just one of many Demeter creations to explore and marvel over... and if carbonated drinks aren't your thing, then you could always try Waffle, Salt Air or Paperback... just for something different.
PRADA – INFUSION D'HOMME
In the 2000's, it seems it was terribly de rigeur for men's designer perfumes to focus on highlighting a floral component. Scents like Gaultier's Fleur du Male and Dior's Fahrenheit 32 each cast new light on bushels of blooms for blokes. In 2008, Prada followed joined the chorus with their own masculine floral Infusion d'Homme.
Released just one year after their smash feminine Infusion d'Iris, Infusion d'Homme made a feature of Tunisian Neroli – sunny orange blossoms that speak of warmth and high summer. Underpinned by notes of iris and vetiver, this masculine release has a refreshing transparency, and is somewhat hushed in its nature. A sense of 'just having taken a shower' is ever-present... it feels crisp and soapy. Extra depth is given by warmer notes of cedar, incense and benzoin... but the composition remains delightfully sheer and weightless.
Infusion d'Homme is perfect for summer days and nights in either casual of formal situations. Apply it liberally to enjoy the stirring wafts of neroli and woods for 5-6 hours.
PACO RABANNE – PACO RABANNE FOR MEN
An olfactory hangover from the 70s that just wont go away! Paco Rabanne for men is a classic perfume pillar that has withstood the test of time – a gruff masculine fragrance that speaks volumes about the decade it was made in. In an era of free love and all things 'groovy', this scent captures a vivid snapshot of its time.
An aromatic fougere, Paco Rabanne is the sort of scent that will instantly put hairs on your chest! A herbaceous explosion of rosemary, sage and Brazilian rosewood meet the nose when first applied, which simmers over a heart of lavender, geranium and tonka. A robust masculine base of musks, amber and mosses anchors this scent to skin for the best part of an entire day! With sour / bitter nuances, this is no airy-fairy aquatic... adjectives such as “fresh” and “clean” are not even in the same universe!
One might wear Paco Rabanne as one would a full beard. It is devoutly masculine, bold and conspicuous... it takes a special guy to be a Paco Rabanne man.
