Fashion runs through the Lam family blood and American designer Derek Lam is no exception. His parents ran a clothing import company and his grandparents a garment factory in his hometown of San Francisco, California. He attended Parsons School of Design to follow in his family’s footsteps and pursue success in the world of fashion and beauty.
Lam started out as an assistant for Michael Kors and would eventually be appointed VP of Design for Michael Kors’ “Kors” line. In 2003 he launched his label debuting at NY Fashion Week and just two years later won the CFDA Perry Ellis Swarovski Award for new designers.
Derek Lam’s is known for thoughtful details paired with modern simplicity. His collections include women’s ready-to-wear, shoes, handbags, eyewear, and as of 2015, fragrance, under his contemporary line Derek Lam 10 Crosby.
Lam burst onto the fragrance scene with a 10 fragrance collection brandishing enticing names, minimalistic, chic packaging and a game-changing way to apply fragrance. 5 fragrances in the line are “fragrance sticks” that twist up like a lipstick and glide onto the skin luxuriously. Fragrance sticks are travel-friendly and are perfect for a discreet midday fragrance refresh. Lam’s wax design makes the fragrance last longer on the skin due to the presence of hydrating ingredients like jojoba oil and absence of alcohol that traditional fragrances have. The entire Derek Lam 10 Crosby fragrance line has been raved about by the likes of InStyle and Allure and is delighting the noses of fragrance lovers everywhere.
