Amouage (Designer)

Amouage, a famous luxury perfume house, was founded in 1983 by the Sultan of Oman, His Highness Sayyid Hamad bin Hamoud al bu Said. He strived to create a line of perfumes that re-introduced the Arabian art of perfumery. The name Amouage comes from a combination of the word "amour" and an Arabic word meaning "waves." The line of perfumes launched by Amouage were developed with traditional ingredients used in that region such as agarwood, incense, musk, rose and spices. Amouage's first perfume, now called Amouage Gold, was created in 1983 by Guy Robert, a famous French perfumer. Since then, Amouage has gained international popularity and, as of 2014, has 66 perfumes on the market. As of 2014, the most recent ones launched were Journey Man and Journey Woman. The bottles of Amouage's perfumes used to have very particular designs. Men's bottles resembled Khanjar, the traditional dagger of Oman, and women's bottles took the shape of the Palace Ruwi Mosque in Muskat. However, in 2006, Amouage changed its designs and now the bottles have a more standard design. Amouage has collaborated with famous perfumers, such as Randa Hammami, Cecile Zarokian, Daniel Maurel, Guy Robert, Bernard Ellena, Alexandra Carlin, Emilie (Bevierre) Coppermann, Jean-Claude Ellena, Nathalie Feisthauer, Violaine Collas, Pierre Negrin, Karine Vinchon Spehner, Dorothee Piot, Lucas Sieuzac, Maurice Roucel, Michele Saramito, Jacques Flori, Alberto Morillas, Richard Herpin, Gras and Creations Aromatiques.
