4711 Echt Kölnisch Wasser (Original Eau de Cologne) is the citrus-based Cologne every house should have. Not only for using on your body, but also for pouring onto the hot face towels to refresh your face/lips after dinner. Wonderful feeling! Just before Christmas 2009 I found that Roger & Gallet also has Cedrat (Citrus) Eau fraiche parfumée, what offers similar scents compared to 4711 Echt Kölnisch Wasser.

I'm 31, and I first learned of 4711 from ads in vintage (1960's) Playboy magazines which I collect. Did some research and was pleased to fine that it was still around. And boy has it been around - over 200 years, and with that carries the distinction of being the original Eau De Cologne. It's a true classic, with an interesting history, and it's easy to tell why this scent has stood the test of time, as it is very refreshing and agreeable, not offensive in any way. In fact you can splash it on all you like, anytime of the day or night, because the light citrus scent really doesn't last very long. That's the only caveat.

4711 was my mom's favorite fragrance, she used it long before she and dad married (1946) and when she passed away at 75, there was a small bottle of 4711 in her purse. Its a wonderful scent anytime anyplace.

4711 cannot be compared to any other. I have gotten many other fragrances for my husband and find them overbearing...I always come back to 4711.Variety is not the spice of life, 4711 is.
