I remember when I was only ten years old and not into perfumes just quit yet. The day that changed all that for me and still only 10 was in the early 1960s. My mother picked up a tiny black bottle, "JOY" in Gold lettering with a tiny red glass topper. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen! I asked her if she would put some on me. She replied, and I never forgot what she said to me: "On no sweetheart, this is "Liquid Gold", but if you are careful, I'll let you smell it. I never forgot that heavenly smell, my mother's love for Joy and after 60 years, I still have mom's beautiful tiny black bottle with the beautiful smell and all the memories that go along with it. I will miss seeing this little treasure and it's creator, Jean Patou, go away. Therefore I will say Thank You to my mom (who passed at age 83) and Jean Patou for making me feel like a princess present, past and please maybe even future again,

I purchased the body cream several years ago, it smells great and compliments the body powder I already own. I'd like to purchase the body powder when it's available.

I thought that this fragrance would be right up my alley. I love floral perfumes and after reading the notes it sounded perfect. White florals, rose, musk, sandalwood, ylang-ylang. Some of my favorite perfumes have these notes, so I am really not sure why I dislike this as much as I do. It is so close to being gorgeous, but there is this note of....decay maybe? I can't pinpoint it, but whatever note is lurking somewhere around the heart/base of the perfume just ruins the whole scent for me. Also, this is a fragrance that reads as old fashioned to me, so if that is something that is a deal breaker, I would definitely steer clear of this one. I'm glad that I only bought the travel sample. This is not a safe blind buy.

I became intrigued with the history of Joy perfume and was so glad to find the Jean Patou version available here, although of course the formulation was required to change some as with other famous perfumes. (I certainly could not afford the original!) I have since bought both the Joy parfum and toilette and I like and wear them both a lot. There seems to be a very slight difference between the two but not one I could describe, and of course the fragrance of the parfum seems to last longer as it is more concentrated. I rate both of them a 5. On me, the scent of both gets better in the first 30 minutes or so; it can seem a bit strong at first. This is not a super-long lasting fragrance on me but no complaints. I hope the stock doesn't get depleted as it's my understanding the Patou Joy is no longer made. (Shame on the silver imposter! It's not the same at all and should not use the name Joy.)
