Jaclyn Smith launched the fragrance California in 1989, through an arrangement with Max Factor. Described in television commercials as “the fragrance that captures the dream,” it was designed to evoke Californian style. It was initially available in several concentrations, including a limited-edition perfume in an art-glass bottle that sold for $200. The license for California was later acquired by Dana.
