"The Canadian singer Avril Lavigne, known for her catchy pop singles and her girly take on skater-punk style, gained fame and a devoted fan following in the early 2000s. Lavigne was born in 1984 and grew up in Ontario, Canada. She left high school to pursue her musical career in New York City and Los Angeles, and after receiving a deal with Arista Records, she released her first album in 2002. That album, Let Go, sold more than 15 million copies worldwide; it was followed by four additional studio albums. Lavigne’s hit singles include “Sk8ter Boi,” “Complicated,” and “Girlfriend.” In 2008 Lavigne launched Abbey Dawn, a line of clothing for young women; it featured items that reflected the singer’s own sense of style, like studded boots, striped and plaid garments, and t-shirts printed with hot-pink skull designs. Lavigne launched her fragrance line in 2009, through licensing arrangements with Procter & Gamble Prestige. Her debut scent, Black Star, was followed by Forbidden Rose and Wild Rose; the perfumes’ packaging, which incorporated stars and flowers, also echoed Lavigne’s personal tastes."
