For Lalique
One month later update review: I making a 180 degree turn from my initial first spray review of Lalique's Illusion Captive fragrance. I first sprayed it within a couple of hours of receiving my delivery, and I gave it a beast-fragrance review. A month later, I braced myself against the onslaught of a clash of smells when low and behold, I was greeted with wonderful and heavenly smells. My Illusion Captive fragrance seems to have gone through maturation during the month as I ignored it at the back of my shelf. After one spritz, this a beautiful and balanced scent met my nose. So, I spritzed three more times to make sure my nose did not fail me. Captive is NOT a beast scent at all! It is quite lovely. It is spicy and lightly floral. For me, I can immediately smell jasmine and cinnamon blended well with some woody elements in the background. For some context, it makes me think of a lighter version of YSL Opium mixed with a tiny dash of Shalimar; not exactly, but similar enough that those two perfumes came to my mind. Those are favorites on my shelves of perfumes. Illusion Captive is definitely a unisex scent and is fine for both women and men. Additionally, I think this fragrance can be worn year round. For me, this scent seems safe for all hours of the day from the office, and into the evening at a jazzy night time lounge. Therefore, I am rating this 5-stars to balance out my impatient first review. I am learning, I may have to give a fragrance time to reblend itself especially if the bottle may have been in a warehouse setting for a long time.

I received my Lalique Illusion Captive in May 2026. This is a very strong fragrance. It leans more masculine than unisex to me. The immediate scent at first spray is beastly. A long time after dry down (about 1 hour), it became more palatable to me. The individual notes started to present themselves in a more calming way. I have a few unisex samples that seem to fall within the same scent cloud as this Lalique fragrance, but Captive is a bit more stronger or sharp to me; Xeroff Accento Overdose, LV Ombre Nomade, Creed Adventus for men and a little Creed Ivory Route. This was a blind buy that will most likely become decant gifts to male family members and friends that like this type of scent. I LOVE the packaging and bottle waaaay too much to give those away. I hope this current review is helpful. FYI: I gave it 4 stars because the scent profile does appeal to my male friends. My own "skin" rating would be a 3, but it seems to work on men better.
