Weighing-In on True Beauty by David Pollock, Global Safe Beauty Expert
Ever stand on the scale and just stare in disbelief before doing the magical scale dance? You know the one I mean. The one where you step off of the scale and shake it off before taking a deep breath and stepping right back on, trying to figure out if the scale was just suffering from temporary insanity? Or, maybe there is a sudden onset of increased gravity that exists only in the area right around you and that scale?
Don’t worry – it’s a dance we all know pretty well, but it’s a dance we all need to stop doing.
The scale is not your friend, but it’s not your enemy either. It’s a tool – and truthfully not the most important tool in your arsenal, when it comes to embracing healthy living. The most important tool you have is you! I am going to weigh-in on the topic of weight by very simply saying: forget about it!
How much you weigh means nothing. In case you missed it, I will say it again. How much you weigh means nothing. What I’m saying is that what really matters is your health, not the number on the scale. Worry about your body fat percentage and your muscle tone – ignore the scale for a while and just live healthy.
Your weight isn’t what makes you beautiful. YOU are! Health is important, not weight. When you feel yourself starting to doubt or lose your motivation – remember that! Don’t take my word for it, though, let’s take a look at what some of your favorite celebrities have to say about it:
“You have to stay in shape. My grandmother, she started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She’s 97 today and we don’t know where the hell she is.” – Ellen DeGeneres
“There is no definition of beauty, but when you can see someone’s spirit coming through, something unexplainable, that’s beautiful to me.” – Liv Tyler
“It’s not a diet; it’s a way of life that teaches you better skills. For years I felt like I could never have an ice cream, but I now know that I can eat ice cream occasionally. “– Jennifer Hudson
“I don’t need plastic in my body to validate me as a woman” – Courtney Love
“I might have cellulite. I might not be toned everywhere. I might struggle in this area or that. But accepting that just empowers me.” – Kim Kardashian
“There is no easy way out. Believe me, if there were I would have bought it and it would be one of my favorite things!” – Oprah Winfrey
“Just because someone is blind and unable to see my beauty doesn’t mean that it does not exist.” – Margaret Cho
Did you notice that not one person there mentioned anything about only weighing 100 lbs. or fitting into a size zero as being what they thought was beautiful? Your beauty, your TRUE beauty, is something that shines from within you. It’s not your waistline or the number on the scale. So while it’s important to make small lifestyle changes that will lead to healthier living, TRUE BEAUTY is in your smile and in the joy you bring to life. Smile – it is what keeps you gorgeous no matter what!
