This is a wonderfully balanced Shalimar flanker. It's very much like the current Shalimar EDP, but as it dries down the vanilla makes an extra-warm, glowing appearance - soft, but tantalizing and sophisticated. This fragrance opens with a jarring citrus note (it actually smelled like Lemon Pledge to me), but that dissipates within five minutes and then the rest of the notes develop in the loveliest way. I wouldn't recommend it for the office, because coworkers might be distracted by it - but it's not so in-your-face that it couldn't be a signature scent for most occasions. Love it.
Purchased Shalimar Eau de Parfum for my wife back in the late seventies. It was so pleasant a scent on her that I suggested she continue using it. Starting at first purchase and continuing to present, it is the only scent she will wear. Thank you Guerlain.
Note that this is the Sur la Route du Mexique variety of Shalimar Vanille. It doesn't specify this on this page so some might think it's the harder to find Ode a la Vanille. It's not, but it IS wonderful. I was hoping for the other, but didn't think for a second about returning this as it's also very nice. (I'm still hunting for OalV.)
