Italian born Sergio Tacchini was an athlete who knew first hand what other athletes needed and wanted in sportswear. A professional tennis player since the age of 17, Tacchini played in a number of competitions, including the Davis Cup, and was a singles and doubles champion in Italian competitions throughout the 1960s. His interest in sportswear inspired him to create Sandys S.p.A., which was later renamed Sergio Tacchini when he retired from active competition.
In the days when white apparel dominated the tennis courts, Tacchini brought a new vibrancy as he experimented with his well-cut, embellished designs. Tennis greats such as Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Pete Sampras and Martina Navratilova were sponsored by Tacchini's company and wore his designs on the court. The company was so successful, it expanded into clothing lines for other sports including skiing, sailing, fitness training, golf and leisurewear. In 2008, the company was purchased by an Asian businessman, Billy Ngok, who expanded the number of stores worldwide to 100 within three years.
As of 2014, the company has 27 fragrances in its collection. The first fragrance, Sergio Tacchini Homme, was launched in 1987. The first women's fragrance, Sergio Tacchini Donna, was introduced the following year. Since its release, it has been one of the company's best sellers. Three new fragrances were launched in 2014, including With Style for men and Precious White and Fantasy Forever for women.
