Kate Spade (Designer)
The design house of Kate Spade began in 1993 under the name of Kate Spade Handbags. It was at this time that founder Kate Brosnahan Spade set out to create the perfect handbag. She had worked as the accessories editor at Mademoiselle, and so was very knowledgeable of the fashion industry before debuting her collection of six silhouettes. Using these silhouettes, Kate Spade was able to create sleek shapes and bright color palettes that took the fashion world by storm.
After the first Kate Spade store opened its doors in New York City in 1996, it didn't take long before the company established itself as a brand known across the globe. The year 2004 saw the arrival of a home collection line called kate spade at home. A men's collection called Jack Spade followed, as was designed by Andy Spade, Kate Spade's husband.
In 2007, the company was handed over to Liz Claiborne. This marked the launch of new jewelry, clothing collections, leg wear, bedding and fragrance collections.
As of August 2014, there are four perfumes for women in the Kate Spade collection. Kate Spade was released in 2003, followed by Twirl in 2010. Live Colorfully and Live Colorfully Gold were both introduced in 2013, with the former being released as a 20th anniversary fragrance for the brand. Kate Spade has over 80 stores across the United States and more than 100 shops internationally.
