The Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry has expanded her reach beyond the big screen to her work as a spokesmodel and as the face of her own fragrance line. Growing up in Ohio, she began her public career as a beauty pageant queen in in her teen years, then moved to Chicago and New York to pursue work as a fashion model. Also an aspiring actress, she landed parts in television sitcoms and dramas.
Berry’s big break came with a role in Spike Lee’s film Jungle Fever; she went on to appear in action films and comedies with A-list stars like Bruce Willis and Eddie Murphy. She made a transition to more serious dramatic roles in a biopic of the African-American actress Dorothy Dandridge, in Losing Isaiah (1995), and in Monster’s Ball (2001), the performance that earned her an Oscar. Berry’s fragrance line, launched in collaboration with Coty in 2009, captures various aspects of femininity, from “effortless beauty” to “primal sensuality.” Her debut fragrance, Halle by Halle Berry, was followed by Pure Orchid, Exotic Jasmine, Closer, and Wild Essence.
