Launched in 1983, fashion house Lolita Lempicka acquired its unique name when founders Josiane Pividal and her husband Joseph created their label as a dual tribute to Vladimir Nabokov’s famous novel, "Lolita," and to the Polish painter Tamara de Lempicka. The couple opened their first boutique in 1984, in the Marais district of Paris. Although Josiane's designs are often inspired by the 1940s, they always strike a playful balance between the modern and the nostalgic. She became famous for her exquisitely tailored suits, infusing classical Parisian styles with fresh femininity.
After the first boutique opened in 1984, the brand rapidly expanded into the international market, and in 1987 hired Kashiyama to direct their Japanese boutiques. In the same year they launched Lolita Bis, a junior line which they dedicated to their daughter, Elisa. The design house is headquartered in Paris, France.
In 1998, Lolita Lempicka the fragrance was launched. The perfume won Best Fragrance, awarded jointly by the Fragrance Foundation and the American FIFI. Even the packaging won an award- DCI’s Package of the Year for 1998. Described as the "fruit of our dreams," Lolita Lempicka is sold in an apple-shaped bottle with the Lempicka name engraved on it. Additionally, L de Lolita Lempicka Perfume for Women was launched in 2006, nine years after the first Lolita Lempicka Fragrance. The perfume comes in an aqua-blue pebble-shaped bottle created by designer Sylvie De France. Lolita Lempicka L is a fresh oriental fragrance, salty, sea-inspired notes. Men's fragrances include Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin cologne, launched in 2000.
